Principal’s Message
Welcome to The Pride~
The Chess and OBOB teams have both won their last respective competition. The Chess Team won the regional competition, while the 67 Slay team won the local Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) competition! Best of luck to both teams as they move onto regional and state competitions. We are extremely thankful for the hard work and leadership of Eileen Evan, who serves as a Lynch Instructional Assistant, and the coach of the Chess team and Mrs. Zollinger, who is the Lynch librarian, and coach of OBOB. We are extremely proud of both teams for their hard work! The teams have been an excellent representation of Lynch and demonstrating what it looks like to be a leader! Classified Appreciation Week is March 2nd-March 6th. This is an amazing opportunity to work with your children on honoring the hard working bus drivers, secretaries, custodians, nutrition, maintenance, grounds, and instructional assistants that help them everyday. This team of professionals is committed to your child’s success and is responsible for making sure that students get to school safely, attend clean schools, eat nutritious meals, learn how to read, learn how to do math, and serve as an ear for your child at every turn. We greatly appreciate the classified team members that support students and teachers, and the great work at Lynch would not be able to happen without them!
The last few months of the school year are an awesome time to celebrate growth and achievement. Students are making progress as human beings and scholars. As the educators on campus, we are lucky enough to see the incremental growth day after day. With spring conferences approaching March 16th-March 20th, we all look forward to sharing the moments and the progress that happens everyday. Please reach out to your child’s teacher to confirm a conference time, and share any concerns ahead of time. We want to make sure the time spent in conferences is a great use of your time and strengthens the partnership between home and school.
Semester 1 report cards are on ParentVue, our student education platform. ParentSquare continues to be the best way of sending and receiving communication with Lynch. If you need any support, please contact the main office. The office team will be able to help you and ensure that everything is available for you.
With gratitude and pride,

| Meet our new Nutrition Educator |
|

My name is Paige, I’m the Nutrition Educator for M.A. Lynch Elementary and Tumalo Community School. I come from a Montessori background, am a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach, and have worked in nonprofit and health clinic settings across Central Oregon.
This winter, students participated in the Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Program (FFVP) through our weekly Tasty Tuesday tastings. They sampled a wide variety of produce, including jicama, raspberries, arugula, kiwi, pineapple, watermelon, pomelo, celery, cherries, cantaloupe, mini bell peppers, cucumber, radish, dragon fruit, cotton candy grapes, and honey grapes.
These tastings support nutrition education by encouraging food exploration, self-awareness, and positive relationships with food. Using all five senses helps students build confidence, appreciation for fresh foods, and lifelong healthy habits. Many of the fruits and vegetables sampled are rich in vitamin C and fiber, supporting overall health and learning readiness.
Some classes also participated in lessons on food advertising techniques, focusing on candy, chips, and highly processed foods with minimal nutritional value. They applied their learning by creating their own fruit or vegetable advertisements, promoting healthier choices.
Additionally, to better understand produce consumption and food waste, we conducted a cafeteria waste audit during one lunch period, with students observing. We measured:
14 lbs of vegetable waste
42 lbs of fruit waste
33 lbs of milk waste
150 lbs (estimated) of wrappers, plastic, mealware, and entrée waste
This project helped students see how small choices can add up. As we head into spring, we can continue building on this work by:
Encouraging students to take only what they will eat
Promoting trying new foods
Reinforcing reduce, reuse, recycle, and compost habits at school and at home
If you would like more information about the school garden, the Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Program, or ways to support nutrition and garden education at our school, please feel free to reach out.Thank you for your continued interest in and support of student wellness and happy new year!

Our Smile Club Family Math and Science Night at Elton Gregory Middle School was a huge success as we partnered with other Smile Clubs across the district for an evening full of hands-on learning and family fun. Students and their families explored exciting STEM activities, including making homemade ice cream while learning about chemical reactions and states of matter. They also designed and tested bottle cars, experimenting with variables to discover what made the cars go faster and travel farther. Students learned that factors like wheel size, weight distribution, and the force of the air or push applied could significantly impact speed and distance. The night was filled with curiosity, teamwork, and problem-solving, bringing our school community together through engaging math and science experiences.
