Principal’s Message

Welcome to The Pride~

As we head into the home stretch of the school year, May is all about momentum. Students are applying what they've learned, wrapping up instructional units, and getting ready for what's next—whether that's moving up a grade or making the leap to middle school. This is the time of year when we dig deep, stay focused, and finish strong.

We were grateful to celebrate our volunteers at the end of April. Thank you for giving your time and expertise to support our students and staff. It truly makes a difference for us all.

Teacher Appreciation Week (May 4–8)

Please consider sending your child's teacher a note during Teacher Appreciation Week. Our teachers work hard every day, and these messages mean more than you might think. Truly, it is the thought that counts. It may be a funny picture, note, or token of appreciation. Any acknowledgement of the impact on your student as a learner and person is greatly appreciated.

Celebrating Student Progress

State Testing Update
Our 3rd–5th graders completed portions of the Oregon State Assessment in April. We're proud of the effort they showed. These assessments help us understand how students are doing with grade-level content and guide what we teach next. Thank you for supporting your child's learning at home.

Battle of the Books
The OBOB team showed impressive dedication this year, reading and studying 16 books— with at least two of the five team members completing all 16. Entering the Redmond battle as underdogs, they came together, worked hard, and competed with real heart to earn first place. They went on to represent their school at the regional competition in Culver, where they advanced to the Elite 8 before being eliminated by the eventual champions. Their commitment and teamwork made the entire school proud.

Robotics
Our robotics team had an outstanding season! They earned 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in Team Driving, showcasing incredible skill and teamwork. In addition, they brought home the trophy for overall Team Driving and secured the overall championship for the entire competition. An amazing accomplishment all around!

Chess
After finishing first in the district tournament, six students were invited to compete in the state chess tournament. Coach Eileen Evan is extremely proud of all the kids! The team finished 4th out of 52 teams at state.

Looking Ahead

Kindergarten Enrollment
We're opening enrollment for the 2025–2026 school year! If you have a future kindergartener, please use the link to register and reach out to the main office. We'd love to help get them ready for a great start.

Field Trips

Please contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions about an upcoming field trip. Please submit your volunteer paperwork ASAP to ensure clearance prior to the field trip.

Middle School Transition
Our 5th graders recently visited their future middle schools and met staff. We know this transition feels big, and we're here to help students and families feel prepared. If you have questions, please don't hesitate to reach out.

We're grateful for all the ways you've supported our school community this year. Let's keep the momentum going and finish strong—together.

Respectfully,

Chris Wyland

Meet our new Nutrition Educator

Paige Welsh-New Nutrition Educator

My name is Paige, I’m the Nutrition Educator for M.A. Lynch Elementary and Tumalo Community School. I come from a Montessori background, am a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach, and have worked in nonprofit and health clinic settings across Central Oregon.

This April, students participated in the Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Program (FFVP) through our weekly Tasty Tuesday tastings. Each student had the chance to explore a variety of fresh produce, including sumo citrus, kiwi, celery, mini cucumbers, tangelos, blueberries, sweet peppers, Honeycrisp apples, Rockit apples, and more.

These tastings support nutrition education by encouraging curiosity, self-awareness, and positive relationships with food. By engaging all five senses, students build confidence, expand their willingness to try new foods, and develop an appreciation for fresh, healthy choices that can last a lifetime.

In addition to FFVP, students have been spending time in our community garden during lunch, with their classes, and through our after-school garden club. In the garden, they’ve been weeding, preparing beds, learning about worms, mixing compost, planting cold-hardy seeds, and working on creative art projects. We even harvested some carrots!

If you’d like to learn more about our school garden, the Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Program, or ways to support nutrition and garden education at our school, please feel free to reach out. We’d love to connect with you!

RSD Family Survey

Hello Redmond School District Families,

As part of our commitment to continuous improvement, we are conducting a survey to monitor our progress in creating a positive school experience for you and your child(ren). Your feedback is crucial in helping us identify areas for recognition and improvement.

The survey will ask you to select the school your child(ren) attends. Once you complete the survey for 1 school, you will have the option to provide feedback on another school, if you have a child at another school in the district. Providing feedback to each school should take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. We encourage you to complete it in one sitting, as your responses will be saved once you click submit.

Please take a few minutes to complete the Parent/Caregiver Experience Survey at this link below:

Last year,  we used the responses we received from our students, staff, and families to set goals to improve:

  • Student Discipline, Behavior, Safety

  • Leader Responsiveness

  • Academic Rigor and Enrichment

  • Belonging and Respect among students

Your survey is submitted anonymously to a survey group we have partnered with.

The survey is open from 4/24/26 to 5/8/26

Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you.
